- Location: Cyclamen prefer cool temperatures and bright, indirect light. If you’re growing them indoors, place them near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight. Outdoors, they thrive in shaded areas.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant from the bottom to prevent water from getting on the corm (the bulb-like structure). Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again.
- Humidity: Cyclamen appreciate a bit of humidity. Placing a tray of water near the plant or misting the leaves occasionally can help create a more humid environment.
- Soil: Well-draining soil is crucial. Cyclamen bulbs don’t like to sit in waterlogged soil, so ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
- Dormancy: Cyclamen go through a dormant period, usually during the summer. During this time, the foliage may wither and yellow. Reduce watering, and don’t be alarmed—this is a natural part of their growth cycle. Resume regular care when new growth appears.
- Fertilizing: Feed your Cyclamen with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season. However, during their dormant period, you can skip fertilizing.
- Pests: Keep an eye out for pests, especially spider mites. If you notice any, gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth.
